Around 1770: Victoria is a friend of Nannerl and Wolfgang Mozart and lives near Salzburg. She sees her calling as a dance mistress. But social conventions and her father do not allow this. The young woman has to overcome many obstacles and face numerous challenges in life before her wish comes true. Everywhere she goes, Victoria hears about women who are living their vocation and are held in high esteem by society. She gets to know some of them personally. These women encourage Victoria to go her own way.
AB'OUT THE A'UTHOR : Time and again, I have found that life itself writes the most exciting and thrilling stories. That's why I deliberately decided against the conventional scheme of how to write a book. I don't enjoy looking for internal or external enemies that my beloved protagonists then have to fight. I think life itself already has enough challenges in store for everyone, without an enemy openly working against them and let's be honest: which one of us really has a mortal enemy? Hopefully, very few! My goal is for my stories to give readers a sense of well-being, to show how a coexistence based on mutual respect, care and love could work. This is the only way in which individuals can grow beyond themselves. I would like to see a society that values every individual and does not treat anyone differently because of their gender, appearance or even social status. That's why my books are the way they are: without life-and-death battles, but still thoroughly sparkling and exciting, as has been confirmed by my readers.

Ferdinand Czernin Gabriele Liechtenstein (Hg.

ABOUT THE BOOK The Salzburg Executioner merges the moral gravity of literary fiction with the tension of a psychological thriller, weaving together a harrowing 18th-century executioner’s diary and the subtle horrors of modern algorithmic manipulation. Unlike conventional thrillers that rely on overt violence, this story uncovers a more unsettling form of harm—digital nudges that steer real people toward despair. It’s a novel that prompts readers to reconsider their relationship with technology and demands that we hold complex, hidden systems and organisations to account. In The Salzburg Executioner, Fatzinger weaves a compelling narrative that bridges the past and present, channeling a deep sense of unease. Drawing inspiration from Franz Joseph Wohlmuth, Salzburg’s last appointed executioner, the story juxtaposes the public brutality of centuries past with the insidious digital manipulations of today. At its heart is James Wohlmuth, a brilliant tech executive mourning the loss of his wife, who became a victim of the very algorithms he helped design. As James uncovers the “invisible executions” hidden in our scrolling feeds, he transforms into an unlikely whistleblower, risking everything to expose the moral void at the center of modern technology.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR L.A. Fatzinger is a former tech CEO turned novelist who left America’s startup frenzy for the quiet libraries of Salzburg, Austria. He spent fifteen years leading data analytics and machine learning companies, developing software for corporations and policy makers. Yet, as success mounted, he grew unsettled by the moral blind spots these systems create. Fatzinger’s writing reflects real-world expertise and personal research: hundreds of hours examining historical documents, consulting mental health professionals, and navigating both Seattle’s tech scene and Salzburg’s storied streets. This blend of entrepreneurial insight, historical depth, and psychological complexity creates a timely yet timeless narrative. His voice encourages readers to pause, reflect, and recognize that even the sleekest technologies can harbor hidden blades.

Leigh Turner is a former British ambassador who led posts in Ukraine, Turkey and Austria. In this witty globe-trotting adventure through one of the most intriguing careers a person can have, Leigh relates his interactions with royalty of both the aristocratic and celebrity kinds, and with brilliant and extraordinary people who bestowed valuable lessons. Offering astute reflections on Brexit, Russia’s war with Ukraine and the chaos of modern politics, he sheds new light on the intricacies of modern statecraft, including what we all can learn from a good diplomat or ambassador. In this entertaining and accessible first-hand account, you’ll discover how diplomats really work with spies, how immunity allows killers to escape justice, how Russia broke up the Soviet Union and then nursed its resentment at the consequences -- and how to throw, and be invited to, a great cocktail party.
